Outline how the principle of reversible reactions can link to a galvanic cells. [3 marks]
Galvanic cells are composed of two half equations - oxidation and reduction. When an anode and cathode are separated by a salt bridge and a wire bridges two reactions - creating a battery - whereby the electrons released from oxidation go to the reduction site, the cathode. Applying a voltage in the opposite direction can reverse the reaction recharging the battery. This is the principle of a rechargeable battery.
Module 5
Evaluate the validity of the students statement [5 marks]
‘Gravity causes all objects to accelerate at the same rate, no matter where in the universe you are’
Gravity causes objects in same gravitational field to accelerate at the same rate
Gravity is present everywhere where their are masses - long ranged, non contact force.
Equate F = ma where a is gravity to newtons law of gravitational force
This demonstrates acceleration due to gravity is no dependent on the mass of the object being accelerated
The students statement is therefore partially correct
